Gift Aid and Covenants in the Parish of the Sacred Heart, Hook
The Parish can still claim an extra 28p for every £1 donation you give.
Since the 6th April 2000 any money given to this Parish or any Charity can be given tax-efficiently provided the donor is a taxpayer. All that is needed is a simple declaration to the effect that you pay Income or Capital Gains tax and that you wish the Parish to reclaim the tax that you have paid on your donation.
In order for our Parish to claim back the tax then:
If you are a tax payer, just complete and sign a 'Gift Aid Form' once & we will give you a "Gift Aid Number". The form will cover any payments you make to the Parish from then onwards, provided that either:
A. If you wish to give regularly you use the planned giving envelopes in the collection.
(A pack of weekly envelopes can be requested when you complete the Green Gift Aid Form)
or
B. If you wish to give on an irregular or occasional basis, place your first donation under the scheme into an envelope together with a completed Gift Aid Form before sealing it and placing in the collection.
(We shall then let you have a 'Gift Aid Number' so subsequent donations can be made simply by placing them in a blank envelope and writing your Number on the outside. If you ever forget your number then simply contact the Parish Office to obtain your number OR write your name on the envelope with the donation. The Gift Aid Forms, are available from the Parish Office)
or
C. You use a Standing Order form to the Parish and pay via your Bank
(This is a very easy method for both the donor and the Parish and you may always give more by using a plain envelope and writing your Gift Aid Number or name on the envelope before placing it in the collection)
Note that signing the Gift Aid Declaration Form does not commit you to any particular
amount but governs all donations you decide to give. It may be revoked at anytime by you if your circumstances change by simply notifying us at the Parish.
Existing Covenants are still valid.
Note that existing Covenanters are included in the tax scheme provided that they complete a Gift Aid form before the end of this year so we will be automatically sending the green forms out for completion before then. (In the past if you covenanted to give X pounds in a year and actually gave X +Y pounds then we could only claim on X pounds.) Under the new rules we can now claim for the extra amount Y provided you always mark any donation with your Covenant Number(obtainable from me) or your Name.
How do I get a Gift Aid Form to complete ?
Gift Aid Forms are available from the Parish Office and should be returned with a note saying whether you prefer to give via method (a), (b), or (c) above.
As previously if you are a higher rate taxpayer, the Parish only receives basic rate tax relief and you may reclaim the higher rate relief yourself. To assist with tax claims, the Parish will provide donors with an annual statement mid year showing the total given in the previous tax year.
