Agenda

  1. Lenten Talks
  2. Next Meetings
  3. Closing prayers
  1. The aim of this meeting was to agree our Parish Lenten activities for 2008. The Café Meetings in Lent 2007 were a great success, but the subsequent Autumn 2007 Café Meetings were attended sparsely. It was agreed that we needed a fresh approach to Parish events for Lent 2008.
  2. In 2008, Ash Wednesday will be 06 February and Easter Monday will be 24 March. It was agreed that a series of three talks should be arranged during the Lenten period, with engaging and inspirational speakers to be invited. ACTION: We will invite Deacon Pat Taylor and Tony Cashman to speak

The idea of linking these talks with a Parish project or other activity was also discussed. It was agreed that a CAFOD speaker should be invited to speak at one of the talks. ACTION: Identify and invite a CAFOD representative – Michael

Other Lent events were discussed, including Lenten Lunches and the CAFOD Family Fast Days. The next programmed Family Fast Day is to be Friday 15 February. It was agreed that the CAFOD talk should precede this, on Wednesday 13 Feb, and that we should aim for a follow-up Saturday morning activity on 16 February. ACTION: Consider options for Saturday activities with the Confirmation Group and other interested parishioners - Ian

Subject to double-checking the school half-term dates, it was decided to aim for the subsequent talks to be held on Thursday 28 February and Wednesday 12 March. ACTION: check half-term dates - Maggie

The theme of this programme of three talks was discussed. It was agreed that they should follow the progression of World; Church and Community; and Individuals. "What difference can we make in the World" (CAFOD); "What difference do we make to our Church and Community" (Deacon Pat Taylor); and "What difference can I make and how will I change?" (Tony Cashman).

Publicity requirements were discussed and agreed. ACTION: circulate a draft newsletter announcement for early January – Michael; speak at the end of early-January Masses - Maggie

  3. Future meeting dates were proposed as :
  1. We finished with prayer: Growing Together Prayer

Father, pour out your Spirit upon our Parish

and grant us a new vision of your glory,

a new experience of your power,

a new faithfulness to your Word,

and a new consecration to your service,

so that your love may grow among us,

and your kingdom come:

through Christ our Lord. Amen.
